Superposition
Principle of superposition: whenever a linear system is driven by more than one independent source of energy, the total response (voltage and current) is the sum of the individual responses.
Note: Does NOT work for power (because power is not a linear system)
Steps
- Deactivate all but one independent source
- Use any analysis to solve for the desired current or voltage
- Repeat 1 and 2 for each independent source
- Sum all the results
Deactivated Sources
- Voltage → short (wire)
- Current → open (no connection)
- Open Circuits
